Freelance staff with electrical qualifications to benefit from IR35 review

Self-employed freelance workers with electrical qualifications will find it much easier to operate after the planned government review of IR35 tax laws.

PCG, the professional association representing freelance workers, has welcomed the coalition government"s commitment in the recent Budget to reconsider the controversial laws, with details of the review to be released soon.

John Brazier, managing director of PCG, said IR35 is "cumbersome and ill-thought-out", creating unnecessary stress for self-employed workers while providing only minimal additional funds for HM Revenue & Customs.

He called on the government to ensure that it does not rush the process of amending the law and instead takes the time to create a fair and transparent new system.

Mr Brazier also expressed confidence that the revisions to IR35 laws will help to make freelancing a more attractive option to British workers.

He said: "More and more people see the potential of freelancing as a positive and rewarding choice for their work while enhancing their lifestyle."
